Interview with Anastasia Tuka from January 07, 2023

─ Tell me where you're from and what you do.
"I'm from Kyiv. I graduated from the university with a degree in graphic design and since then I have worked in 2 areas: art/design and charity (I managed art projects in a charitable foundation). With the beginning of the war, I moved to Italy, where I work as a designer at "Diesel".
─ How did your story as an artist begin?
"I have been drawing since childhood, I liked to create and decorate something. Once, when I was studying at school, I painted several bottles with paints and placed them as part of the decor. My mother's friend, an artist, came to visit and was surprised, said that it was very cool and advised to enter a creative specialty. It must have been a decisive moment".
─ What do you usually draw on?
"I like graphics, I especially like drawing with liners. However, I can also write with paints, using different techniques. Now almost all my works are in digital format, created in graphics programs and on a tablet".
─ Is inspiration important to you, or is it redundant?
"The idea is important to me. It is born in my head and does not give rest until I realize it".
─ What artists inspire you?
"Gustav Klimt, Salvador Dali, Maurits Cornelis Escher, Ivan Marchuk".
─ How did you remember February 24, 2022?
"On February 24, I woke up at about 6 in the morning from phone calls and text messages that the war had started and explosions were happening all over Ukraine. I was alone with two young children (1 year old and 2.5 years old), so I had to quickly pack up and move to a safe place. She moved in with her parents because there was a bomb shelter in their house. It was hardly the most terrible day, no, we understood that there would be a war. But at that moment it seemed that it would end soon".
─ What exactly did the war change in your life?
"I moved from Kyiv to Italy with my children, and my husband is fighting on the front lines in Ukraine. The most depressing feeling is the feeling of the unknown: what will happen tomorrow, will there be a place to return to, and will there be someone..."
─ What will you do when you hear the word "Victory!"?
"I will cry.. because the price of this victory is too high".
─ If today you were offered to change one thing: anything, what exactly would you change?
"I would not have abandoned those Italian language courses in Ukraine".

─ Розкажіть звідки ви, та чим займаєтесь.
─ Я з Києва. Закінчила університет за спеціальністю графічний дизайн і з тих пір працювала в 2-х напрямках : мистецтво/дизайн і благодійність (керувала арт-проектами в благодійному фонді). З початком війни переїхала до Італії, де працюю дизайнером в “Diesel”.
─ З чого почалася ваша історія митця?
─ Я малювала з дитинства, подобалось щось створювати і прикрашати. Якось, коли навчалась в школі, розмалювала декілька пляшок фарбами і поставила їх як частину декору. Мамина подруга, художниця, прийшовши в гості, здивувалась, сказала, що це дуже класно і порадила вступати на творчу спеціальність. Мабуть, це стало вирішальним моментом.
─ На чому ви зазвичай малюєте?
─ Люблю графіку, особливо подобається малювати лайнерами. Проте, можу писати і фарбами, в різних техніках. Зараз майже всі мої роботи в цифровому форматі, створені в графічних програмах та на планшеті.
─ Чи важливо для вас натхнення, чи це зайве?
─ Для мене важлива ідея. Вона народжується в голові і не дає спокою допоки я її не реалізую.
─ Які митці вас надихають?
─ Gustav Klimt, Salvador Dali, Maurits Cornelis Escher, Іван Марчук.
─ Яким ви запам'ятали 24.02.2022?
─ 24 лютого я прокинулась приблизно в 6 ранку від телефонних дзвінків і смс, що розпочалась війна і вибухи по всій Україні. Я була сама з двома малолітніми дітьми (1 р. і 2,5р.), тому мала швидко зібратись і перебратись в безпечне місце. Переїхала до батьків, бо в їхньому будинку було бомбосховище. Навряд це був найстрашніший день, ні, ми розуміли , що війна буде. Але на той момент здавалось, що це скоро закінчиться.
─ Що саме війна змінила у вашому житті?
─ Я з дітьми переїхала з Києва до Італії , а чоловік воює на передовій в Україні. Найбільше пригнічує відчуття невідомості: що буде завтра, чи буде куди повернутись , і чи буде до кого…
─ Що будете робити, коли почуєте слово "Перемога!"?
─ Буду плакати.. бо ціна цієї перемоги зависока.
─ Якщо б сьогодні вам запропонували змінити одну річ: будь-що, — то що саме ви б змінили?
─ Не закинула би в Україні ті курси італійської мови 🙂
