Interview with Mykhailo Skop from December 14, 2022

─ Tell me where you're from and what you do.
"Mykhailo Skop NEIVANMADE, artist, illustrator, graduate student".
─ How did your story as an artist begin?
"I've always drawn as long as I can remember".
─ What do you usually draw on?
"Walls, paper, boards, digital".
─ Is inspiration important to you, or is it redundant?
"Everyone has their own inspiration, for me it is the moment of realizing meaningful connections that will form the structural integrity of the future work".
─ What artists inspire you?
"Jean Michel Basquiat, Mark Rothko, Alexander Roitburd, Hermann Nietzsche, Yves Klein, Joseph Beuys".
─ How did you remember February 24, 2022?
"I remember that call at 6 in the morning. The next day remained in the memory only as fragments of images and sensations".
─ What exactly did the war change in your life?
"I studied our culture, and in particular - mythology as a form of memory. Now I draw war posters to support my people, to speak to the world with the help of visual signs, because they are able to overcome language and cultural barriers to speak to people about the struggle and suffering of the Ukrainian people. I also sell my own works and prints for charity".
─ What will you do when you hear the word "Victory!"?
"Cry".
─ If today you were offered to change one thing: anything, what exactly would you change?
"Every one of us is making a difference right now, I can hardly suggest anything better than the incredible things our people have been doing since the beginning of the full-scale invasion".

─ Я завжди малював, скільки себе пам'ятаю.
─ На чому ви зазвичай малюєте?
─ Стіни, папір, дошки, digital.
─ Чи важливо для вас натхнення, чи це зайве?
─ Натхнення у кожного своє, для мене це момент усвідомлення змістових зв'язків, які утворять структурну цілісність майбутнього твору.
─ Які митці вас надихають?
─ Жан Мішель Баскіа, Марк Ротко, Олександр Ройтбурд, Герман Нітш, Ів Кляйн, Йозеф Бойс.
─ Яким ви запам'ятали 24.02.2022?
─ Пригадую той дзвінок о 6 ранку. Наступна доба залишилась у пам'яті лише уривками образів та відчуттів.
─ Що саме війна змінила у вашому житті?
─ Я досліджував нашу культуру, а зокрема ─ міфологію як форму пам'яті. Тепер я малюю воєнні плакати, щоб підтримати свій народ, говорити до світу за допомогою візуальних знаків, адже вони здатні долати мовні та культурні бар'єри, аби промовляти до людей про боротьбу і страждання українського народу. Також займаюсь благодійним продажем власних робіт та поліграфії.
─ Що будете робити, коли почуєте слово "Перемога!"?
─ Плакати.
─ Якщо б сьогодні вам запропонували змінити одну річ: будь-що, — то що саме ви б змінили?
─ Кожен з нас змінює прямо зараз, навряд чи я запропоную щось краще за те неймовірне, що наш народ робить з початку повномасштабного вторгнення.
