Interview with Oleksii Boiko from October 11, 2022

─ Tell me where you're from and what you do.
"My name is Oleksii, I'm from Mykolaiv, but I've been living in Odessa for 5 years. I work as a cook in a coffee shop. At the same time, I am creating something beautiful".
─ How did your story as an artist begin?
"I think my history of painting began in my childhood, I always liked to draw somewhere something on something. In life, there was a lot of experience in art: graffiti, fashion design, advertising design, tattooing, painting".
─ What do you usually draw on?
"I draw on the iPad in proCreate, also on paper with watercolors or pencils. Recently, only a simple pencil".
─ Is inspiration important to you, or is it redundant?
"Inspiration for me as a bonus to the process of creating a new painting. It comes just out of the blue, like lightning in my head, and for me it is not superfluous at all. You can say that inspiration, rather, comes when an image of how the picture should look, all the subtexts, what elements, colors appear. Then the magic begins".
─ What artists inspire you?
"Previously, he was proud of the art of foreign artists: Kim Jong-ki, Maeles Johnston, Picasso, Dali, Van Gogh and others. Now I began to communicate more and get to know Ukrainian artists. I am proud of and equal to the works of: Mitya Fenechkin, Vlad Kryshovska, Khrystyna Zvenger, Ulyana Nesheva and other young artists".
─ How did you remember February 24, 2022?
"Oh, the 24th. It's very loud, everything is like under water, but then you will wake up from this state and decide where, with whom and how you wanted to go to war a few weeks before. On February 24, there was a call from her mother and a chill of fear running through her body, rather from the fact that she was very scared than from the news that "the war had begun." After the explosions, news, and so on. Like many".
─ What exactly did the war change in your life?
"I think she changed everything. It completely changed my relationship with Russian people, to everything that they are used. I spoke Russian for 28 years, now I'm switching to Ukrainian and it's just fun. My art has changed, that's for sure. In general, life was remembered and will never be the same as it was before the war".
─ What will you do when you hear the word "Victory!"?
"I'll probably burst with happiness, I'll cry on the spot, and for a long time I can't believe that we won. Well, I will definitely open the champagne that has been kept since the beginning of the war on the day of our victory".
─ If today you were offered to change one thing: anything, what exactly would you change?
"What to change? I am not sure that something had to be changed, everything goes as it should and everything is not in vain. But maybe there is one thing that I would change, but I won't tell you yet, let it be sweet".

─ Розкажіть звідки ви, та чим займаєтесь.
─ Мене звуть Олексій, я з Миколаєва, але живу в Одесі вже 5 років. Працюю кухарем в кав‘ярні. Паралельно створюю щось прекрасне.
─ З чого почалася ваша історія митця?
─ Гадаю моя історія митця почалась ще з дитинства, завжди полюбляв малювати десь щось на чомусь. В житті було дуже багато досвіду в мистецтві: графіті, дизайн одягу, рекламний дизайн, тату, написання картин.
─ На чому ви зазвичай малюєте?
─ Малюю на iPad в proCreate, також на папері аквареллю чи олівцями. Останній час тільки простий олівець.
─ Чи важливо для вас натхнення, чи це зайве?
─ Натхнення для мене як бонус до процесу створення нової картини. Воно приходить просто зненацька, молнією в голову, і для мене воно не зайве взагалі. Можна сказати що натхнення, скоріш, приходить коли з‘являється образ того як має виглядати картина, всі підтексти, якісь елементи, кольори. Після починається магія.
─ Які митці вас надихають?
─ Раніше пишався мистецтвом іноземних митців : Кім Чон Кі, Маелс Джонстон, Пікассо, Далі, Ван Гог та інші. Зараз став більше спілкуватись та знайомитись з українськими митцями. Пишаюсь та рівняюсь на роботи: Мітя Фєнєчкін, Влад Кришовській, Цвенгер Христина, Нєшева Уляна та інші молоді артисти.
─ Яким ви запам'ятали 24.02.2022?
─ Ох, 24-те. Дуже гучно, все як під водою, але потім ти просинаєшся від цього стану і розумієш де ти, с ким та як, хоча очікуав на війну ще за кілька тижнів до. 24 лютого пролунало дзвінком від матері та холодом страху по тілу, скоріш від того, що вона дуже налякана, ніж від новини «почалась війна». Після вже вибухи, новини, і таке інше. Як у багатьох.
─ Що саме війна змінила у вашому житті?
─ Гадаю що вона змінила все. Змінила остаточно мої відносини до російських людей, до всього що їх стосується. Я 28 років розмовляв російською, тепер переходжу на українську і це просто кайф. Змінилось моє мистецтво це точно. Взагалі життя помінялось і ніколи не буде тим яким було до війни.
─ Що будете робити, коли почуєте слово "Перемога!"?
─ Мене мабуть розірве від щастя, я впаду плакати прям на місці, і довго не зможу повірити в те що ми перемогли. Ну і обов‘язково відкрию шампанське, яке трималось ще з початку війни на день нашої перемоги.
─ Якщо б Вам запропонували змінити одну річ: будь-що, то що саме Ви б змінили?
─ Що змінити? Не впевнений що щось потрібно було міняти, все йде як треба і все не марно стається. Але може і є одне те що я б змінив, та я не буду поки розповідати, хай це буде на солоденьке 😉
