Interwiev with Avtandil Gurgenidze from 25 January, 2023

— Name yourself and tell me, please, how it happened that you support Ukraine?
"My name is Avtandil Gurgenidze, artist, photographer, tourist guide. I did not decide to support Ukraine, this is my automatic position as a person; and as a Georgian who went through a similar reality in connection with such a neighbor, and as an artist who made projects in Ukraine even before the war. We are all fighting as best we can, and in this war I am for Ukraine and for Ukrainian statehood".
— Why did you choose this particular style/genre for your works?
"Style and genre mature over the years. I have been drawing since I was fourteen, now I am forty-three and this is my path and part of my life. I paint about what I think about, what I feel and even at such a time I try to create positive works".
— I think I see original motives in your works. Are they there?
"Well, we all probably hold memories from past incarnations, but I'm more inclined to call it symbolism. I rarely give titles to my works because I don't want to limit the viewer's imagination. If you look at the picture, you can find a lot of things there, and not all at once".
— Are there any historical figures of Ukrainians that attract your attention?
"I do not focus on figures, and in the Ukrainian series of works I I am trying to recreate the spirit of the people".
— What do you associate the word "Ukraine" with?
"It is difficult to explain what. Ukraine is people, character, nature, a place that is transformed from a territory into a state; the state, the principles and aura of which is impressive to create and create".
— That you wish each of us?
"I wish you and us peace, this is also historically lacking for Georgians. It is not just the word "peace". I wished it to you many, many years ago, when there was no war yet and everyone was surprised then. I prayed and would have been surprised, but alas... I wish you more health. From my own experience, I know how important it is to preserve it, and to preserve the desire to embody and create".

— Назвіть себе і роскажіть, будь-ласка, як так вийшло що ви підтримуєте Україну?
"Моє ім'я Avtandil Gurgenidze #avtandilgurgenidzeart, митець, фотограф, гід по туризму. Я й не вирішував підтримувати Україну, це автоматична позиція мене як людини; і як грузина, який пройшов схожу Реалію у зв'язку з таким сусідом, і як митця, який й до війни робив проекти в Україні. Ми всі боремося як вміємо і в цій війні я за Україну і за українську державність 
"
"— Чому ви обрали саме такий стиль/жанр для своїх робіт?
"Стиль і жанр визріває з роками. Я малюю з чотирнадцяти, зараз мені сорок три і це мій шлях, і частина мого життя. Я малюю про те, про що думаю, що переживаю і навіть у такий час намагаюся створювати позитивні роботи".
— Мені здається, що бачу у ваших роботах первісні мотиви. Вони там є?
"Ну, всі ми, мабуть, тримаємо в собі спогади з минулих інкарнацій, але я більше схильний називати це символізмом. Я майже не даю назви своїм роботам, тому що мені не хочеться обмежувати уяву глядача. Якщо ти дивишся на малюнок там можна віднайти багато всього і не все одразу".
— Чи є історичні персони українців які привертають вашу увагу?
"Я не фокусуюся на персонах, і в українській серії робіт я намагаюся відтворити дух народу".
— Із чим у вас асоціаціюється слово "Україна"?
"Важко пояснити з чим. Україна — це люди, характер, природа, місце, яке з території втілюється у державу; державу, принципи і аура якої імпонує аби творити і створювати".
— Щоб ви побажали кожному з нас?
"Побажаю я вам і нам миру (цього грузинам теж історично невистачає). Це не просто слово "мир". Я бажав його вам і багато-багато років тому, коли війни ще не було і всі тоді дивувалися. Я молився і здивувався б, але нажаль... Побажаю ще здоров'я. Із власного досвіду знаю наскільки це важливо — зберегти його, і зберегти в собі бажання втілювати, створювати і творити".
